The Highland Community Center offers a wide range of recreational programs designed to promote wellness, teamwork, and community connection for all ages. Activities include youth soccer and basketball leagues, dance classes, an engaging summer youth program, and a dedicated Senior Citizens program that provides social, wellness, and recreational opportunities for older adults. Soccer Program
The Highland Legacy Recreation League at Highland Community Center is a recreational youth soccer program committed to making the game fun, accessible, and affordable for all families in Mount Gilead and the surrounding Montgomery County communities.
Open to children ages 4–14, the program welcomes players of every skill level — from first-time participants to returning athletes. Highland Legacy focuses on age-appropriate skill development, including dribbling, passing, and shooting, while creating a safe, positive environment that encourages confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.
Rooted in the principles of inclusion and opportunity, the league emphasizes sportsmanship, respect, and fair play, ensuring every child has the chance to play, grow, and feel a sense of belonging — both on and off the field.

HIGHLAND IS BRINGING NHL STREET TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY—AND IT’S COMING SOON.
This isn’t traditional hockey. NHL STREET is fast, loud, and full of action—designed for kids to jump in, get moving, and have fun right away. No ice. No skates. No experience needed. Just energy, teamwork, and non-stop play.
Led by trained coaches and backed by the NHL, this program gives kids a chance to try something completely new in a fun, positive environment.

Senior Citizens Program
The Senior Citizens Program at the Highland Community Center is a cornerstone of our community, offering a wide range of engaging activities tailored to the interests and needs of older adults. Designed to support social connection, physical health, and overall well-being, the program creates meaningful opportunities for participants to stay active and involved. Offerings include wellness and fitness classes that promote strength and mobility, along with social events, arts and crafts sessions, and educational workshops that encourage lifelong learning and creativity.
Dance
Our Community Dance Program offers a vibrant and welcoming space for youth and adults to explore movement, music, and self-expression. Rooted in cultural traditions and contemporary styles, classes range from beginner to advanced levels and are led by experienced, passionate instructors. Participants build confidence, discipline, and teamwork while developing strong technical skills in a supportive environment. Through performances, workshops, and community events, the program celebrates creativity and brings neighbors together through the joy of dance.

Imagine the Highland Community Center buzzing with even more exciting programs and activities — and you can help make it a reality! We’re looking for passionate volunteers to teach art classes, traditional dance, storytelling, and oral history sessions, as well as lead quilting circles, crocheting, and cooking classes for kids. Other opportunities include entrepreneurship workshops, voter empowerment activities, and leadership training, along with organizing and coaching an adult basketball league, board and card game nights, and flag football.
